Hello world!

Welcome to my new blog!

It’s been awhile coming, but I hope you’ll agree it’s been worth the wait.

I’m a PPL holder who’s come over from the “Dark Side”, (GA), to the fast-growing world of ultralights. The cost of owning and operating an ultralight is substantially cheaper than that of a GA aeroplane, such that the ultralight industry is growing like mad.

While there are still some diehards in GA who believe that ultralights are not “real aircraft”, I point out that my wife and I have flown an ultralight from the Brisbane area to the Kimberley, Perth, Torres Strait, Melbourne and many points between. You just don’t get much more “real aircraft” than that. And all at a fraction of the cost of of GA.

Don’t get me wrong, Mr GA. You’re welcome here too. Flying is what we all love to do; the issues that I intend exploring are ones that affect us all. I’d rather be seen as a unifying blogger, than one trying to drive a wedge between two interest groups. There are enough people out there who regard us as a nuisance, or worse, so we really need to look after each other’s interests to a very great extent.

That said, I believe the future of recreational aviation is with the ultralight. With all the new technologies available to aircraft designers and builders, the new “breeds” of escape machines seem to multiply daily.

I’ll try to keep you entertained with items of interest from around Oz and around the world. So please bookmark the site and drop by frequently to see what’s new.

And your comments will be very welcome; I’d like you and I to make this the blog that everyone talks about. Any suggestions for improvement will be gratefully received.

Thanks for dropping by, and Happy Landings.

See you soon!
