Hi All.
A nasty airshow accident at the Reno Air Races. We all hate to hear about it. While we feel empathy for those who died, and the bereaved families, we also know that anyone with a sense of self-importance will loudly proclaim that these kind of events should be stopped, in the interests of public safety.
Just what we need.
I have to say though, did they go too far? It appears there’s evidence that the elevator trim tab parted company with the aircraft shortly before the crash, causing immediate nose-up attitude, and subsequent crash. We’ll hear soon enough, I expect.
Interestingly, the aircraft had been heavily modified in the months leading up to the race; reduced wing and aileron length, in an effort to increase speed.
This was a 65-year-old aeroplane, mind you. I’m nearly that old and I assure you I couldn’t cop that kind of stress, either. Could it be asking too much of an old aeroplane?

Safe flying ….
